The CRS Group and The Felix Project Collaboration

Just before Christmas 2022, The CRS Group was approached by a London food redistribution charity, The Felix Project. They were looking for a portable industrial freezer solution to store more chilled food and provide more meals during the holiday season.

What is The Felix Project about?

Every year almost 10 million tonnes of food is thrown away across the UK.

These numbers are shocking considering the environmental impact and the large number of people who are struggling to afford food on a daily basis and turn to charities for help.

The Felix Project is a charity organisation that works on saving edible surplus food which would otherwise be disposed of. They then redistribute it to over 1,000 community groups and primary schools across London, from food banks and social pantries to homeless shelters and domestic abuse refuges.

Despite rising operational costs, The Felix Project ended 2022 with 29M meals delivered to over 1000 charities and schools in every borough, reaching children and families, the homeless, the elderly, refugees and many more. This includes 873,065 meals cooked in Felix’s Kitchen, a high-end professional kitchen making meals to eat at home.

The Felix Project handles 12% of all surplus food redistributed by charities in the UK.

What is The Felix Freezer Project?

The Felix Project recognised more food could be saved if they increase their freezer capacity, including the organisations they distribute to. In December 2022, The Felix Project was able to make this idea a reality after receiving a donation from His Majesty The King, the Prince of Wales Charitable fund and a consortium of other funders.

This unique initiative, managed by The Felix Project and supported by other charity partners, is working to provide 800 community groups across the UK with a fridge or freezer. The units will enable the charities to take more frozen or fresh food, keep it for longer and ultimately feed more people facing hunger. The idea should also result in less food going to waste.

How did we help?

The CRS group supplied a double Mega unit that can store up to 26 additional pallets of food. Our team acted on very short notice and installed the unit at The Felix Project headquarters in West London just before Christmas, ensuring holiday food distribution goes smoothly.

Their frozen food volumes doubled in January this year compared to 2022!

CRS service was excellent both from a product and people perspective. Their technical skill is highly evident, and they went well beyond the call of duty to work to meet our extremely demanding deadlines during the festive season! In fact, they were friendly and accommodating every time we asked for or needed anything”.

How can you help?

The Felix Project team hopes to attract more suppliers of fresh and frozen food that would participate in this noble initiative, support other food charities, reduce food waste, and help many others in need.

His Majesty’s donation will secure the delivery of 800 fridges and freezers to different community organisations and schools across the country, and the charity is looking for more donors from different areas within the UK.

The CRS Group would like to take this opportunity to reach out to our valued network in the food industry and invite everyone to support this honourable project if they can. We are more than happy to provide assistance with communication and further partnership requirements.

Join us on this path to support sustainability and fight hunger in the UK!
